Rhys Ifans to take one small step onto For All Mankind spinoff Star City

While Otto Hightower fumbles his bid for power in House Of The Dragon, Rhys Ifans is quickly becoming the king of prestige TV spinoffs in our reality. The HOTD actor was just cast in a major role in Star City, Apple TV+'s upcoming For All Mankind offshoot. The minute he stars in something about an existing character with the word "young" in front of it, we can consider him officially coronated.

For now, his role as Chief Designer will have to do. Per Deadline, Star City will follow the same alt-history as For All Mankind, in which the Soviets won the space race. This time, however, the show is going backwards in that timeline to track the project of putting a man on the moon from the Russian perspective. Ifans' character will reportedly be the driving force behind the program. 

In our timeline, For All Mankind creators Ben Nedivi, Matt Wolpert, and Ronald D. Moore are all returning for the spinoff. (All three are on board to executive produce, with Nedivi and Wolpert serving as showrunners.) "The more we learned about this secret city in the forests outside Moscow where the Soviet cosmonauts and engineers worked and lived, the more we wanted to tell this story," they said in a statement. They're also presumably hard at work on For All Mankind season five, which was announced alongside Star City last year. 

Don't worry too much about this, team green. Ifans isn't leaving House Of The Dragon, although Deadline does allow that the new series may run up against his future in Westeros in the long run. In the meantime, he also stars in The Scurry, a horror-comedy about killer rodents with Ella Purnell and Paapa Essiedu, and Inheritance, a spy thriller with Bridgerton's Phoebe Dynevor.
