Marvel Overhauling “Armor Wars” Again?

Nearly five years ago came the announcement of “Armor Wars,” a Marvel Studios TV series for Disney+ that would star Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes/War Machine.

By 2021, Yassir Lester had been hired as Head Writer, and the project seemed ready to develop – but then came a number of delays. In late September, the plan had changed, and the project was to be redeveloped as a film.

Then came 2023’s “Secret Invasion. ” The costly and widely panned limited series laid some groundwork for War Machine’s story by revealing that a Skrull had been impersonating him for some time – though it’s not clear just how long.

Since its release, there hasn’t been a peep about how “Armor Wars” is going until an update from DanielRPK (via CBM) this week, which claims that the project is on hold.

They say Marvel Studios is reworking the project following the “Secret Invasion” backlash and it’s officially on hold, NOT cancelled. Richtman also says: “[Armor Wars is] also expected to focus on entirely different things than originally planned.”

Those original plans were rumored to include the return of Sam Rockwell’s Justin Hammer. Either way, the project isn’t likely to continue until after the “Avengers: Secret Wars” film opens in 2027.
