Mark Selby was in brilliant form as he stormed to the defence of his Championship League Snooker Invitational title in Leicester on Wednesday night.
The four-time world champion hit an incredible purple patch on Wednesday evening as he began making big breaks at will.
In his final group game the Jester made a superb 147, the sixth of his career, to surge into the semi-finals.
In his home town he continued his sparkling break-building, beating Hossein Vafaei with efforts of 129, 135 and 65.
Then came the final against the world champion and Selby would not be contained.
Breaks of 99 and 100 helped him to a 3-0 win and the 37th title of his professional career.
‘Very pleasing, best of fives, it’s a bit of a lottery, especially with the standard of players in this Championship League, it’s difficult to win,’ said Selby.
‘I played a lot better than yesterday. Semis and final I played well, scored well when I got my chances.
‘It’s nice to beat someone like Kyren because he’s the man of the moment at the minute. I know it’s only best of fives, but you still get a bit of confidence from it.
‘I feel like I’ve been playing ok the past couple of months, just a bit inconsistent. If I can try and string that kind of form together then I’ve got a chance in any tournament.’
It was disappointment in the final for Wilson but another impressive run to a final, having made five this season and lifted three trophies.
The Warrior beat Hossein Vafaei, Si Jiahui and Matt Selt to scrape into the semis but then sparkled against Judd Trump in a 3-0 semi-final win.
The world champ made breaks of 120 and 113 against the world number one, but could not live with Selby in the final.
