Transport minister Anthony Loke has said a multi-billion ringgit integrated transportation hub will be established in Ipoh within 20 years. The transit-oriented development project is expected to be complete in two decades and will integrate not just public transportation, but also residential, commercial and recreational spaces. The 2.55-hectare first phase of the project is due to start in six months and be completed in two years.

“The first phase involves improvements to landscaping and the recreational aspect, while preserving the heritage and cultural elements,” Loke said after witnessing the signing of a signing of a memorandum of agreement (MoA) on the project between Ipoh Sentral Sdn Bhd (ISSB) and Country Annexe Sdn Bhd (CASB) yesterday.

The project will also the involvement of the Railway Assets Corporation, Perak state government as well as private industry players such as Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB), which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of CASB and will assume a vital role as the main developer.

Meanwhile, phase two covers a mixed development over 24.7 hectares and will see the construction of serviced apartments, offices, commercial spaces, hotels and community facilities. “This phase, expected to take 20 years to complete, will become a modern hub connecting various transport modes such as rail and bus services,” said Loke.
