Beloved retailer's post-bankruptcy announcement angers fans
While this seems like good news for fans of the brand that's in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, not all customers see it that way.
Quite a few well-known retailers that it once would have been hard to imagine life without have been forced to call it quits in the last year.
Perhaps the biggest of those names is Rite Aid, the drugstore chain that was originally founded as Thrift D Discount Center in 1962. Rite Aid declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October 2023 and then a second time in May 2025, and is now closing all its locations.
