Anna Kendrick will do Blake Lively Another Simple Favor at SXSW

The A Simple Favor sequel is officially titled… Another Simple Favor. It's pretty easy to imagine the conversation that led to this objectively hilarious choice. "Hey guys, we need to title this thing," someone probably remembered. "Oh, well she does another Simple Favor, so…" "Perfect!" In a world of Mission: ImpossibleDead Reckoning Part Ones and Dahmer—Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Storys, it's honestly refreshing.

The film's official plot description is just as goofy. "The sequel will see the return of Stephanie (Anna Kendrick) and Emily (Blake Lively) as they head to the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman. Along with the glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square," it reads. No spoilers here, but fans of the original 2018 film will understand just how ridiculous it is that these women are still friends, much less jet-setting off to Italy together.

Paul Feig's years-in-the-making followup will officially open this year's SXSW festival. "I couldn’t be more thrilled to be back at my favorite festival in the world where we successfully launched Bridesmaids and Spy, and I cannot begin to say how honored I am to have our film opening it all," the director said in a statement. "I’ve avoided making sequels to any of my films but these characters were just too much fun not to revisit. So, to be able to have Anna, Blake, Henry (Golding), Andrew (Rannells), Michele (Morrone), Elizabeth (Perkins), Alex (Newell) and myself watch our film with the great SXSW audience is a bucket list event I’ll be able to check off March 7th and move playing drums for Dwight Yoakum’s band up to the top slot."

If Lively does attend the festival in person, it will be her first major appearance since the beginning of her protracted legal battle with former It Ends With Us director and co-star, Justin Baldoni. Don't expect there to be too much chatter about it at the press conferences, however; Feig has made it clear that the drama will not be affecting his movie. In response to a (since deleted) post asking if the litigation delayed the film's release, Feig wrote, "This is total BS. Sorry. The movie is finished and coming out soon. Don’t believe anything you read on social media these days."

For everyone else, the film will also debut on Prime Video May 1.
